Pool Water Color and Finish Synergy: Designing the Perfect Pool

The color of your pool water is not a paint choice — it's the product of three variables interacting: the interior finish, the depth of the water, and the light that hits it. Homeowners who pick a finish from a brochure swatch are often surprised when the water comes out a completely different shade than the sample promised.

The design principle is that you're not choosing a color at all — you're engineering how light reflects off the finish through the water column. A white plaster finish gives a bright aqua; a darker aggregate finish turns the same water deep and dramatic; and the depth of the shallow end versus the deep end changes the apparent color within the same pool.
